i'm collapsed about to burn

A lot of people want to be in control in the cinema, to be made to feel secure. I go against those conventions, for good or bad. I want to create a permanent state of unease. I want the audience to ask, “What the fuck is going on?” If they ask that, they can start to let go a bit. Some people don’t. Some people can’t. But if you go with it, then trust me: you’re in for a ride.
Nicolas Winding Refn

Interviewer: So in this film (Pusher) Mads Mikkelsen was more or less unknown, and he’s suddenly become—Nicolas Winding Refn: Mrs James Bond.Interviewer: So how do Danish audiences see him?Nicolas Winding Refn: Well, I think that when I made the first one… he is a very peculiar person in a sense that he had gone to acting school, but he’s very different from a lot of the actors that we have in Denmark. So there was more personality, he felt different, he spoke different, he spoke with difficulty. In Denmark he’s famous for always slurring and you can’t really understand his speech and so forth. Which again was something very new in Denmark. We were used to speaking very properly, so when he came about he really changed a lot of things in that way. And now as you know he’s the sexiest man in Scandinavia, also the biggest star.
